Week 2 Resi at Hatfield University

Here are a few pictures of our fab 2nd week of NCS at Hatfield University

The famous socks came on week 2 too!

This was our lovely town house that was our home for the week. We had a lovely big kitchen, dining room and lounge area. We were really experiencing the student lifestyle

Here is Patrick showing you his lovely room. Everyone had their own bedroom which was very modern with a double bed, desk and furniture. Very nice!

Some pretty flowers we picked to make our house even more homely

There were some big sports courts that we could use so the group all went outside to get some fresh air and play badminton, football, basketball and cricket

Patrick looking cool in the sunglasses!

Students split in to 2 groups- we had a competition to see which team could build the highest structure using newspaper and sellotape. there was some great teamwork and problem solving. Well done guys

We went to the community fair where the students met local charities to get some inspiration for their social action project

Air Ambulance charity

Keech Hospice charity

Then the group started to discuss their ideas for the project

At every opportunity in free time, Imogen enjoyed doing lots of knitting!

It was going to be a top... then a skirt... but in the end it was a lovely bag! Well done Imogen

Claire trying on one of Patricks hats... very cool!

We had a staff v students cookie making competition. Lucy, Zoe and Tom won with their tasty biscuits. Very nice...

We enjoyed a mid afternoon bbq snack- bananas, chocolate, nutella and marshmallows- Yum! Well done for taking charge of the bbq Dan

Yum!

Patrick making everyone drinks...

 Patrick is now taking selfies!

The group enjoyed doing 'staff against students' quiz. On the first night staff went a bit gentle on their questions for the students but that soon changed on the next night after they got thrashed by the students. Guys you did great with those questions you asked staff. Well done!

Zoe getting her hair curled... very glamourous!

Claire trying on another one of Patricks hats... looking cool?!

Thursday evening we went to the talent show and disco. Well done Zoe and Lucy for winning. I am afraid I can't post the video of the girls stealing the show as the file is too big! I have it saved though so people can watch it soon

Adam and Nicky having a little afternoon nap after all of their hard work!...

Thank you for reading our posts and looking at our pictures. We are now getting ready to do our Social action project. Details will be added soon. Have a great summer guys

Week 1 PGL Liddington- Friday

Friday

Our last day at PGL Liddington

So our final day at PGL has arrived. After packing our bags and clearing our rooms we put our suitcases safely in a room whilst we did some more activities. It was pouring with rain!

Lovely bacon sandwiches for breakfast!

Everyone trying to get some shelter while listening to the instructions about how to climb the Jacobs ladder

It was very high and pretty slippery because of the rain...

After this, the group did a problem solving activity. They certainly were busy busy!

Once again the activities relied on team work and good communication skills. The group are getting very good at this after all the practice they are getting.

After lunch we travelled home in the rain back to Dunstable. Everyone tried to get lots of rest over the weekend after such a busy week of fun and activities... all ready for week 2 at Hatfield University.

It really was an amazing week guys. I am so glad i shared your fantastic experiences with you

Week 1- PGL Centre. Thursday fun and games

Thursday Week 1 at PGL

Another wonderful day on our NCS adventure. After breakfast we did our first activity of the day- survival. This was really interesting and taught everyone lots of basic survival techniques; How to make a fire; how to make shelter and how to filter water.
Bear Grylls bring it on!

Everyone took part in a group activity deciding what 2 things they would take if they were going on a desert island. The group came up with lots of good reasons why they chose their items.

Patrick and Gareth getting the hang of making a fire...

The next activity was for everyone to split into 3 groups and all make a shelter using some tarp, string and any bits of nature they could find... logs, stones and branches. The shelters were all really different and had some great features. Great work everyone

The girls feeling right at home in their camp that they have set up. Well done ladies!

Nicky doing some cleaning in her camp using branches as a brush. Very inventive!

This is the tent we decided we would like to stay in for the night. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to sleep in there to try it out

Learning how to filter water using leaves and an empty bottle made into a funnel. Very interesting...

The next activity was wall climbing. Everyone did really well. Patrick ended up hanging upside down at one point. Thank goodness for video cameras to record such funny moments!

Our Lovely group photo with all the crew in it. Happy memories...

After lunch we did the tunnelling activity where we had to crawl through tunnels underground in the pitch back. Very scary! After that we did the assault course. The instructor told the group that they were the best group he had worked with in the 6 months he had been there he said that they demonstrated great team work and helped each other well. Very well done guys!

Back to the rooms for a little chill out time after dinner. Gareth was enjoying Nickys special blanket!

After dinner the group did really well with their presentation to the other NCS teams. They told the other teams what their favourite things had been so far. Everyone did really well when standing up in front of everyone and made them laugh with the comical things they said and singing Shaggys 'it wasn't me' at the end when talking about the fire alarm going off each night!
After that, it was time to chill out around the camp fire.

Another few group shots...

Nicky and Adam found an ENORMOUS stick (virtually a tree!) to toast our marshmallows, it certainly caused a few laughs and the envy of other groups eying up our lovely marshmallows...

Patrick wasn't too sure about his sticky fingers!

Wow- what a stunningly beautiful evening chilling by the campfire

Fun and games when Patrick was chasing Adam with handfuls of grass to throw at him
'GO PATRICK GO!!'

Disco time! Boy did the students bust some moves!

The girls with their new friend Peggy

Patrick with his amazing t-shirt!

A great night had by all. Then at 1am....

Yet another late night fire alarm!

Fun times indeed
